A Seuss-y Party in Five Easy Steps

Friday, March 7, 2008

Welcome to my blog party, hosted courtesy of 5 Minutes for Mom, Welcome! Please make yourself at home.

In case you are new, here's a bit about me: My name is Michelle, but online I usually go by an old college nickname, Michie. I am very eclectic and am often told I would have been a great hippie.

I am mom to a 3 year-old little girl named Paige.

I am married to Roland, (aren't we cute?)

We live with my best friend, Michelle. Here she is with Paige a year or so ago.

I am a severe special education teacher and I work with very medically involved students with multiple disabilities in a public elementary school. I absolutely love elementary school, and I think I have more fun there than the kids do. I am also a perfectionist, which brings me to the point of this blog - it is my journey of learning to let go and just be me, learning to live a little more, without worrying so much about if things are "right" or what I "should" or "should not" do.

That being said, let's party! I am a big Dr. Seuss fan, and as his birthday was March 2nd, a lot of schools are doing Dr. Seuss themed activities right now. So why shouldn't I join in the fun?? (I told you I love elementary school!) So, let's get started!

First, print and decorate your own Cat in the Hat hat.

Second, Go to Kidthing and download your free computer version of Horton Hears A Who!

Third, after reading your book, you can make these yummy Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast Pizza.

I made this batch with my students at school today.

Fourth, Make a Cat in the Hat Parfait for dessert: Create a red & white parfait for each student in a clear plastic cup by spooning in red jello, then white Cool Whip. Continue the pattern. End with white Cool Whip and you can top with a red cherry or sprinkle with miniature red M&Ms. Idea from The Virtual Vine.

Fifth, after dinner, enjoy making Oobleck.

Thanks for coming to the party! I know that the Green Eggs and Ham looks pretty yucky - but they actually tasted pretty good! :)

What a great post! I love the cool activities you included. By the way, my oldest step-daughter has a friend who goes by Michie, and my 11 year old daughter's middle name is Paige. I love that name! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'll come visit you again.

Hi Michie! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Paige is so cute and your pics are great. I love the cat in the hat and horton links. Suess is one of my favorite parts of having children. :-) The green eggs and ham is probably not something I'm going to do but I have to give you points for being the first party hostess to "offer" food that didn't make me hungry! ;-)

    Enjoy the party!

Thanks for inviting us to your Suess party. You have a really great blog, I am really glad to have found you! :)

Very fun party post! Not so sure I'd like to partake of the green eggs and ham necessarily, but I would love to join you in making a hat!

I look forward to bumping into you at the various party stops along the way!

    Blessings,
    Shera

I'm too amused at what a little green food coloring will do. The Green Eggs and Ham are just eggs, ham, cheese, and crescent rolls. It smelled really good when we made it, and tasted pretty good too. Try it without the green food coloring maybe. I find it funny how our brains play tricks on us and we don't want to eat it just because it is green. :)

Thanks everyone for coming to my Seuss Party!

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by my party (I'm sorry about my spam filter...it's a little "too" strict.)

Love the Seuss ideas. My daughter just had green eggs at school. She wasn't too impressed. ;)

    You have a beautiful family.

    Have a great weekend!

I forgot to ask (a technical question) I love your header. I've been trying to put a pic with my title (I also have blogger) and it's not working. I get a real small pic in the corner and it messes up my title. I've tried looking on the help site to no avail. If you have a minute and I leave my email, could you tell me how you did your header? It's so cute! Thanks.

Your dr. Seuss party was fun! Thanks for visiting my blog. The snowflake toast was easy.... snowflake cookie cutter + lightly toasted bread dipped in powdered sugar. I guess if it was white bread you wouldn't even need the sugar, but what fun would there be in that? ;)

From one elementary teacher to another... "I do so like green eggs and ham! Thank you, Thank you, Sam I am." I read that book about 10 times last week, I think I could recite it by heart!

Awesome Dr. Seuss party! Wish I'd have thought of that!

Special Ed teachers rock all things foreign and domestic!

Greet to meet ya! I'll be back to visit!

I LOVE the idea behind the name of your blog! I completely relate to it as I am always trying to do the same the same thing. Ever check out Flylady? She talks about the same idea - really the first time I realized that I was a perfectionist hence why I had so much trouble decluttering my house since it was all or nothing in my head.

I made green pudding with my preschool kids after reading Green Eggs and Ham. Love your Dr. Seuss ideas!

Eclectic is a word I know and love … (and I was a hippie) … so we might get along well. Your little girl is a QT with such a lovely smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Yez … you & your hubby make a cute couple indeed! I’m a happily retired teacher and a Dr. Seuss fan myself ;--)

I hope you’ll stop by Small Reflections when time permits. I have freshly squeezed lemonade and snacks … but no green eggs and ham.

    Hugs and blessings,
