Unplugged Flat
Monday, July 28, 2008
Ok, so this is technically my 100th post, and no, this isn't a big list of things about me. This is in fact my Unplugged Project for this week. I will try to get to that big list over the next couple of days - we just got home from a long weekend with my family on Cape Cod, so I'm using that as an excuse for not doing the list, and also for having kind of a simple Unplugged Project this week.
We did symmetrical paintings - putting paint on one side of a piece of paper, folding it over, and then having the paint on both sides. I folded a piece of paper and told her to paint on only one side of the fold. Paige thought it was pretty funny to try and paint on the other side of the "line." I would keep shooing her back to the "right" side of the fold. She thought this was funny. She also ended up painting herself quite a bit during this project, hence the naked artist look.
We put some paint down and I let her finger paint a little, and then we folded it, smooshed it flat, and opened it up.
It is a pretty simple project, but she seemed to think it was pretty cool.
Then Friday night we went to visit my family, and while at the beach, Paige told me that she was making a "flat sandcastle." Isn't it nice when they come up with ideas that just happen to fit the theme all on their own?

I love how you squished the art "flat" and that she came up with a flat sandcastle! We have a new friend that actually makes incredible sandcastles and she's going to give the kids (and moms!) a lesson next week, I hope. I can't wait! :-)

I love the flat sandcastle to. Also love the paintings, I always have so much fun doing that with the painting. When I try it the boys usually end up following suit. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I knew as soon as I saw the title of your blog that we'd have a lot in common. I too take the clothes away when we're doing something messy:)
Really cute project. I love the sandcastle.

Definitely do the 100 things post! They are so fun (to read anyway).
And Paige is too cute in her Ariel suit and towel. My girls would be so jealous. They are huge Ariel fans and eagerly awaiting the new Ariel movie.

Michie, thanks for the Signing Time recommendation. I do, in fact, have all the ST videos even the Baby ST videos. We love them.

Had to comment on the flat sandcastle. That was way too cute to let that fly by!

I've been planning to try that kind of painting with my daugther. I'm wondering how she'll do with it (she's almost 2) but as long as she has fun that's all that matters.

How adorable. I think this has been said 100X in your comments but that is great that she is making connections to the projects and other things in her environment! You have one smart little cookie there!
